Today, we’re diving deep into the often-overlooked realities of personal growth—the challenging, raw, and transformative times that we sometimes wish we could skip over. I recently recorded an incredible podcast episode with my friend Sam, a Holistic Trauma-Informed Women’s Coach and NLP Practitioner, and we had a heart-to-heart about navigating those dark seasons of challenge and transformation. In this post, I’ll be sharing some of the profound insights from our conversation and exploring why these times are essential for growth and healing.
Understanding Life’s “Initiations”
Challenges often feel like they’re derailing us, but they’re actually setting the stage for growth and helping us become the version of ourselves that can receive our desires. Think of life’s toughest moments as “initiations.” When everything feels like it’s falling apart, it’s actually an opportunity to look at what is crumbling and recognise it as a chance to let go of the old. This process allows us to realign with the new, learn the lessons we need, heal deeply, and come into a closer relationship with our true selves. Embracing this moment instead of bi-passing it means me trust and know that who we’re becoming on the other side will be more whole, secure, and empowered and is for our greatest good.
Rather than seeing hardships as obstacles, what if we viewed them as invitations to step into a truer, more aligned version of ourselves?
The Process of Alchemy: Turning Lead into Gold
In spiritual and psychological growth, there’s a concept known as “alchemy,” where we transform our heaviest, most difficult experiences (the “lead”) into sources of wisdom, resilience, and empowerment (the “gold”). This doesn’t happen by avoiding the pain or numbing the struggle. It requires a willingness to confront our shadows—the hidden parts of ourselves we may have repressed, denied, or overlooked. By facing and integrating these parts, embracing challenges rather than shrinking from them, building our capacity to FEEL the full weight of our emotions without judgment, in a way that doesnt mean we get stuck there… but in a way that lets us alchemise and turn the lead into gold for our souls growth and healing. We do this through EMBODIMENT – This is the transformative vehicle I use in my work with women, that involves dropping out of the mind and coming into the body (which is where alchemy takes place).
There’s a phase in any transformative journey that we like to call “the void.” It’s that in-between place where we’ve let go of the old but haven’t yet stepped fully into the new. This space can feel isolating, confusing, and even painful. Sam and I talked about how important it is to navigate this time with grace and faith, trusting that it’s a natural part of the journey to clarity and self-alignment.
Honouring the “Stretch” and Building Resilience
Your soul didn’t come here for an easy ride. It incarnated into the dense human experience to FEEL, grow and HEAL. It has a series of lessons it needs to learn in this life so that it can ascend to higher planes in the next life. Growth requires a stretch—a willingness to expand beyond our current comfort zone. As Sam and I discussed, life will sometimes “stretch” us by presenting challenges that test our capacity. Rather than resisting, embracing this stretch the medicine is in the surrender, to allow it and to soften into it so we can build resilience, trust, and deeper self-awareness and ultimately find more peace, ease, alignment and receive more deeply on the other side.
Rather than seeing challenges as unfair setbacks, try viewing them as strengthening exercises, like lifting weights at the gym. Every time you confront a fear, process a tough emotion, or navigate a difficult situation, you’re building your “resilience muscle,” which will support you in future seasons of growth and allow you to move through quicker each time.
Getting Unstuck
One of the biggest hurdles in personal growth is the tendency to get stuck in cycles of self-doubt or healing “loops,” revisiting the same issues without moving forward. This happens because many women don’t know how to process what’s coming up—the fear, self-doubt, exhaustion—since they haven’t been taught how to truly feel and alchemize these experiences in the body.
Instead, we often escape into the mind, getting lost in overthinking, numbing out, dissociating, or avoiding. These coping mechanisms might seem like relief at first, but they ultimately keep us stuck. Without a way to ground ourselves in the body, we disconnect from what we’re feeling, which can lead to dysregulation, physical symptoms, or acting out of alignment.
The truth is, the path forward lies in coming back to the body. For many women, this can feel intimidating, as they worry that fully feeling will be “too much” and fear getting lost in the depths. But when we develop a practice of embodiment—learning to sit with what’s present and move it through the body—we can process challenges with resilience and grace. This is the core of the alchemical process: facing and feeling, rather than avoiding, to emerge from the other side more aligned and empowered.
In my upcoming group program, Reclamation of Her, I’ll guide women to reconnect with their bodies, so they can release old patterns, trust their inner wisdom, and find their power. This work not only supports greater alignment and healing but ultimately brings you closer to your whole, authentic self.
